About Us

Cuts 4 Kidz is an event designed to empower and motivate the future leaders of America.

Cuts 4 Kidz is a Colorado non-profit corporation founded on September 1, 2007.  The Corporations EIN 26-0902237.  The event we have held since 2007 has been providing haircuts to boys and hairstyles to girls and backpacks filled with school supplies to aid students K-12 return to school in a positive way.  We solicit support from local stylists in the community to be part of this event every August to assist with the haircutting services.  The Board of Directors and volunteers ensure the event is coordinated and organized to represent a positive reflection of the community in which it is held.

This event started from a “conceived idea” from an original board member on the “spur of the moment plan” the end of July 2007.  The event happened with only 11 days of preparation.  Although this concept is not new, a former organization that boasted attendance numbers in the thousands had not been holding the event for years.

Since the inception in 2007, Cuts 4 Kidz (C4K) has held the event in 2008, 2009, and 2010.  The date has been set for this year on August 4, 2013.  The location of the 2013, event will be at 15343 E. 6th Avenue, Aurora, Colorad 80012.

In 2007, the event was only backpacks and school supplies on a street corner and haircuts in a salon and barber shop.  In 2008, the event was held at Summit Convention Center in Aurora and included vendors.  Vendors, Wings on Laughter and United Studios of Self Defense offered children certificates and passes to their facilities.  Wings on Laughter is a non-profit organization who is dedicated to preserve the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.  One of their contributions to the event was offering a free flight in a plane to children who attended the event.  There were children who took advantage of this and were empowered by this opportunity.  Guest speaker Opalonga Pugh was also a highlight of the event with her moving storytelling skills.  Children were exposed to heritage and interactive play.  Dance troops were also part of the event to keep children entertained during the event.

In 2009, the event was held at The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) # 39 in Aurora. Ten stylists of African American and Hispanic decent assisted with the haircutting and styling portion of the event. A vendor offered face painting and balloon art lessons to children throughout the event.  Guest speaker Elinora Reynolds held the participants captivated when she asked questions and rewarded their participation with dollar bills.

In 2010, our highest attendance to date proved to have made an impact on individuals and corporate businesses.  There were repeat funders and donors from the previous year and new volunteers asking to work the event.

As each year advances, we have developed a larger base of supporters.  Board members have embraced the event as their own personal mission to support the organization in its success.  The organization’s future will continue to impress.

For the 2012 year event, committees have already been formed to handle the task of making this year’s increasing number of attendees a manageable and well organized event.
