Disaster Relief Program
Largos, Nigeria became the first recipient of
the Landfill Restoration Project by way of a 40ft container
filled with donated medical equipment and supplies. Largos
is a port and the most populous
conurbation in
Nigeria. With a population of 7,937,932, it is currently the
second most populous city in Africa after
Cairo,
and is estimated to be the fastest growing city in Africa and
the seventh fastest growing in the world.
The Landfill Restoration Disaster Relief
Program is a working project inside Operation Walker Run
designed to decrease the amount of medical equipment captured in
landfills throughout the United States. This project is funded
by donation of medical equipment from hospitals, nursing homes,
assisted living facilities and private donations to the
Organization. Portions of the donated equipment are shipped to
countries with limited access to medical equipment or for
Disaster Relief. Large volumes of medical equipment can be
captured from healthcare facilities before reaching the landfill. Funding the
cost for warehousing and storage facilities becomes a factor in how many items
reach the program.
